A commodities trader bought 4/17 tons of oolong tea and 2/17 tons of green tea to sell to a national supermarket chain how many tons of tea were purchased

    Answer: 6/17

    Oolong tea and green tea are both tea so we just have to add 4/17 and 2/17 to get the total number of tons of tea purchased.

    Since the denominators or bottom numbers (17) are already the same, we just have to add the top numbers and put over the denominator.

    4/17+2/17=6/17
