The Spanish colonization of America was the process by which an administration was introduced in the New World that was intended to be imitation or duplication of the contemporary peninsular administration. 1 This period extended from 1550, until August 13, 1898 nineteenth century, when the Spanish flag was lowered in San Juan de Puerto Rico.

It expanded its Territory, through conquering, repopulating and administering a new territory, inhabited by unknown peoples. He defined Catholicism as the official religion of the new empire, developed it and taught the new settlers. They developed a mercantile system that only authorized the colonies to trade with the ships of Spanish flag.
