Due to World War I, women were able to acquire jobs left vacant by men who went off to fight in the war. Women were able to provide support as doctors, ammunition makers, nurses, translators, and ambulance drivers.

The 1920's saw the rise of the Women's Suffrage Movement, giving women the right to vote, achieving higher education, and working outside of the home as telephone operators, secretaries, factory workers, and sales clerks.
