Margaret had been having issues with her co-worker Lupe for some time now. At first, she tried talking to her but things didn't improve Lupe's aggression. Finally, Margaret decided that the only way to stop Lupe's aggression was to report her to her supervisor and HR, even though she knew it would likely cost Lupe the promotion they were both going after. Margaret's intent appears to fall under what conflict-handling strategy?

    Answer: Competing

    Explanation:

Margaret and Lupe's conflict is as a result of competition. They are both looking at gaining promotion in the firm during appraisal, although Margaret wants to work cordially Lupe's ambition for promotion is limiting them and Margaret is also ambitious and also desires promotion but not as Lupe, she discovers that if she reports the case she would loose out, so she has to bear for the moment through the competition.

    Competing.

    Explanation:

There are five types of strategies used in conflict-handling: competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding, and accommodating. Margaret's style is the first one, competing. This style does not make an effort to cooperate, but instead is highly assertive. Margaret is not trying to find other ways to deal with Lupe - even though she did talk to her first - so that they can solve this issue without harming each other's career. Quite the contrary, she is willing to risk Lupe's promotion by reporting her, which is an aggressive solution.
