    Mountain contributed to the expansion of the west going to the west and exploring the land and making it available to the people moving. Mountain men went to the west to make a profit of the wilderness. They were instrumental in setting up land west of the Mississippi for settlers to move.

    The ideology that became known as Manifest Destiny included a belief in the inherent superiority of white Americans, as well as the conviction that they were destined by God to conquer the territories of North America, from sea to shining sea.
