Drive Theory of Motivation: Ben is motivated to train in order to reduce his internal tension that is caused by the needs he hasn't met yet (marathon success).

Incentive Theory: Ben becomes motivated to compete and win because he has worked hard for it and knows he will be praised and have recognition from other people by doing so.

Biological Regulation of Weight: Even though Ben has exercised a lot in order to be well-prepared for the marathon, he might have lost some weight. However, it won't affect his marathon performance in a bad way.

Achievement Motivation: Ben wants to succeed and out perform his opponents by giving his best in his daily trainings.

James-Lange Theory of Emotion: Since Ben worked hard for the race, lost weight and became more toned, he feels better about his body and muscles which will make him feel happier when competing in the marathon.

Adaptation-level Phenomenon: Ben wants to adapt in order to perfom well in the marathon which will lead him to train even harder in order to achieve the task.

Endorphins: Endorphin is a hormone the body releases to relieve pain and make the person happier and calmer. When Ben trains, he experiences a rush of this hormone which motivates him to exercise more and have a better performance in the marathon.
