    The answer is: D

To the settlers, making the journey to the New World granted them the once in a lifetime opportunity to escape the many difficulties they suffered back home such as poverty, famine, disease and political turmoil.

The new world had vasts amounts of land all which were either given for free by the colony or could be purchased cheaply.

Immigrating to the New World allowed the settlers to seek new opportunities for a better life.
