A - Americans would be hesitant to use military force overseas in the future. The Vietnam War was the first major war that the U. S. entered as a whole country and did not win. This was also a long, exhausting war for U. S. citizens - the war lasted from 1955 to 1975 and resulted in the deaths of over 211,000 American soldiers. The media also had an immensely powerful effect on the American public, causing the general U. S. population to resent the government for entering the war and conscripting U. S. soldiers, many of whom returned from overseas mentally and physically harmed. Since Vietnam, U. S. involvement in foreign wars has been heavily protested, whereas prior U. S. military action (in World War I and II, for example) was seen as necessary and successful.
