    1) - no, they're not synonyms.

    2) - yes, they don't need to be in opposition! you can have an opinion that is also a fact (for example, i have the opinion that global warming is man-made, and this seems to be confirmed by science

    3) you should use facts in research, opinions can suggest search for facts, but don't used them!

    4) I would stay the opposite is true.
