What was the main goal of the Military Reconstruction Act? The act called for a complete overhaul of the Confederate Army, with officers reevaluated based on their performance during the Civil War. The act created safe havens for black Americans to present their cases against military officers for abuse and fraud. The act divided the South into five military districts and put officers in charge of making sure states rewrote their constitutions. The act prohibited individuals from joining the military unless they had been pardoned for supporting the Confederacy.

    The main goal of the Military Reconstruction Act was to punish the South for their actions taken in the Civil War. As part of the Military Reconstruction Act the South was divided into five military district and officers were put in charge of making sure that states rewrote their constitutions. In addition many of the delegates included in these constitutional conventions were freed former slaves.
