What was the most important reason the Europeans come to the new world?

    I think at the time for the explorers the most important incentive was the hope of finding gold (as in the metal, gold) in the New World.

    The original incentive was to find a cheaper trade route to India, and after those (Gold and finding India) failed, the Europeans looked for other ways to explore the lands.

    In short, the most important reason: to become richer.
