What were slaves used for in the Southern US?

Slaves were used to pick cotton and do many other labors the southerners did not feel like doing.

OK so basically slaves were used as Laborers if they were outside slaves and the inside slaves were used to do house work also considered labor but they tended to the children and were better taken care of then the ones outside.
