Much of western Pennsylvania started the Whiskey Rebellion because of the newfound tax on whiskey. The government first tried to stop the protests, sending several people over to try to use force and negotiation to stop the rebels, and eventually mostly quieted things down. Nonetheless, the law was repealed in 1801, making large differences in today's society.
