    Unconditional surrender happens when a country has been so depleted and devastated it has no other choice but to surrender and stop fighting their enemy. In the modern world this would only happen in the case when some devastating attack would take place on either country in the war (in the case of the atomic bomb that was considered to be the devastating attack which left the Japanese with no other option).
