Tuskagee airman is a nickname for African-American pilots who fought in WW2. They served in 477th bombardment group (never in combat) and 332nd fighter group.

332nd was responsible for escorting bombers. For many years it was said that no bomber which they have escorted was shot down, but recent studies show that about 25 were shot down. Nevertheless, considering how many escort missions they've made it was still one of the best results in US Air Forces.
