Environment contributing factor in hate crimes against gays?

The environment factor that contributes to the hate crimes against gays is social, or, we can say, cultural. Gay people is generally seen as anormalities, or, even, by some people, as monsters. This kind of social status was made by the years of prejudice against things that are not usually seen and looks like out of standard.
