    Carbon is the molecule of life. It provides the framework for all tissues of plants and animals. During photosynthesis that takes place in grass, atmospheric CO2 is made into cellulose and into an energy source such as sugar. The Johnson grass, algae and Hawthorn trees release oxygen into the air as the carbohydrates sugar and cellulose (which animals cannot use) are synthesized. When an organism uses the energy during cellular respiration, CO2 is released into the atmosphere.
