What effects did the migration from rural areas to the cities in the late 19th century have on urban society?

When people from rural areas migrate to the city, they want to find better opportunities such as higher-paying jobs where they can provide for their families. However, the problem is that with mass migration to cities is that there would be over-crowding due to the sudden influx of people coming to the cities. There is also a possibility that there might not be enough jobs to employ these people and even if they do find jobs, they might not earn enough to send back to their loved ones. Also with the mass exodus to the cities, the countryside would be left undeveloped and would deteriorate. This would also affect cities because it relies on rural areas to provide them with raw materials that they need to produce goods and services. With more people in the cities are also the problems of heavy traffic as well as the spread of diseases.
