An Enabling act is a legislative act bestowing certain specified powers on a person and organization.

The best known example in history was the so called enabling act of 1933 that gave Hitler and his Nazi party legal power to tear down the German Democratic Republic and end democracy, thus preparing the way for a complete Nazi take over of Germany.

This enabling act was passed on 23rd March 1933 and it was to have great consequences for the citizens of Nazi Germany.
