How did the United States respond to the crisis in West Berlin in 1948-1949?

    The US, together with the UK, initiated Operation Vittles, which was a big scale operation of providing Berlin with all the goods it needed (such as food, medicine, anything it couldn't produce itself) by air. Around 5000 tons of good a day were needed in the summer and 6000 in the winter.
