Which city in the west served as a center of christianity

Rome. St. Ignatius of Antioch, who was martyred around 110AD because of his Christian faith, described Rome as having the "presidency of love." The church at Rome was also said to be founded by St. Peter and St. Paul, and both reportedly died there.
