Overfaming led to the demise of the Mayan culture because farming was where they get their resources. One of these resources was food. They cut down trees for building homes, and for firewood. They used the firewood to heat up plaster for their huge lime temples. After they burn the forest, they use the land to grow crops to sustain their growing population. This was unhealthy for the landscape, since during the time of Mayan collapse, there was speculation of a drought. This led to the land drying out and no nutrients were left. Although this led to the downfall of the civilization, this was not the main cause.
