The pattern of the stars in the Big Dipper, seen here, never changes. Because of this, we know that even though the moon and planets move across the night sky, the stars do not. Instead they have what scientists call apparent motion. What causes this apparent motion of the stars?

    That is a bit of a tricky question. I would say that stars move around because of the Earth which is in fact rotating around the sun which causes the stars to seem to move from one place to another but they are in the same place.
