    People of the south apposed Lincoln's presidency because they believed that he would abolish slavery, which they needed for their plantations and crops. The north favored Lincoln's presidency because they did not have a need for slavery as much as the south did, and they saw slavery as being wrong due to the book "Uncle Tom's Cabin" which emphasized the horrors of slavery in the south.
