After the Ottoman Empire was vanquished, the European powers devided up most of the Muslim world into mandates. These mandates were grouped together by oil, and the original governmental systems of the people were abolished. All their natural resources of worth were taken, and the victors divided the spoils. Placing people groups and tribes together that didn't get along to discourage unity, and dividing countries up that way when giving their independence led to a great amount of civil unrest and discord. Also, a few people, or Uncle Toms loyal to the white man profited at the expense of everyone. Mass Education was put on the back burner along with infrastructure. These were the major ingredients that led to the rise of terrorism and discontent, although the majority of Muslims are peaceful and nice people. Had the Ottoman Empire not been taken over by the British (and French) most of the terror related things we see today would not have happened.
