Ashoka's commitment to the happiness and welfare of all his people conflicts directly with the caste system aspect of Indian society. The caste system is a system of social stratification where the highest members occupy the best jobs in society and have the most money and the lowest members are "Untouchables", as they occupy very unhygienic jobs and a lot of them lived on the streets.
