How did the Revolution in France divide Americans

Some saw it as a chance to become Knights in Shining Armor to the French who had come to the rescue of the United States during the American Revolution. It was seen also as chance to show Europe a thing or two about modern warfare and what a few thousand American Frontiersmen could do. Others listened to George Washington's warnings about involvement in European affairs. They kept cool and kept their powder dry, but there was a strong sentiment that favored support americans
