During the Cold War, Russia was once part of a collection of states under Communist rule. They were known back then as the Union of Soviet Socialistic Republics an d had a very strict and totalitarian regime where people’s rights were not respected and were constantly at odds with the United States of America. Today, even though the Soviet Union has collapsed and Russia is back to being a single country, it has global ambitions by building up its military and getting involved with conflicts in the Ukraine and Syria and is now exerting its influence in international politics by establishing relations with Iran. These activities remind us of what they did in the past when they were still a Communist Country.
