How did the tariff impact the economies of the South and the North differently?

    Many analysts call the conflict between the south and north, in the American Civil War, a "tariff war". The north financed its industrialization through high rates of imports of primary goods, which undermined the economic functioning of the south, which in turn required agricultural machinery.
