The traditional family unit, headed by the husband, was the norm. Few women worked outside the home. Most stayed home, kept house, and raised children. TV was black and white, with very few channels, hence the family did not depend on tv for entertainment, relying instead on family games and outings. Parents taught their children respect. Children were expected to entertain themselves, with a few toys and outside play. Out of wedlock pregnancies were not accepted and brought shame to the family. Children looked up to their parents.
