Why do you think the Supreme Court justices often write concurring and or dissenting opinions in a case?

    For the answer to the question above, The Supreme Court gives justices that do not agree with either the reasoning or the result of a case the opportunity to write "concurring" opinions or "dissenting" opinions. The practice allows all of the judges to get their thoughts down in writing, so everyone knows where they stand in a particular case. Publishing all of the different opinions in a case ensures that the issues can be completely understood by someone who reads the case later.
