Electricity is a natural phenomenon, so it was not really "invented". For example: lighting is connected to electricity.

In practical sense, I would stay that electricity was "invented"in 1831, when Michael Faraday devised a dynamo, which allowed to actually generate it.

Before this time, naturally occurring electricity could be studied, but not generated. Especially, chemically and biologically caused electricity was known.
