    Europeans have been exploring lands around them before our time (1000 BCE) such as the Phoenicians (but you might argue they were not originally European), who might have travel led to Britain at that time.

    Probably the first well - known European explorers were the Vikings, who settled Iceland, Greenland (you mightname Erik the Red, who went to Greenland in 10th century) and even reached America.
