The phylum that is most related to the arthropods is Nematoda. Both arthropods and nematodes belong to a superphylum Ecdysozoa which is believed to be a clade consisting of all evolutionary descedants from one common ancestor. Nematoda are triploblastic and possess an embryonic mesoderm that is sandwiched between the ectoderm and endoderm.
