without myelination, information about limb movement moves slowly to the CNS and motor commands move slowly back to the muscles. by the time the motor command has reached the muscle, it may no longer be appropriate. as the neurons become myelinated, the speed of action potential increases which is why we observe improved balance, coordination, and movement.
