What happens when an atom that has lost an electron comes in contact with an atom that has gained an electron?

    When an atom that has lost an electron comes in contact with an atom that has gained an electron, usually the the two atoms would attract each other and form a compound. This compound would be ionic since it is governed by ionic bonding.
