    It is the affected variable.

    Explanation:

During an experiment, the variable which is being measured with reference to other variable is called the dependent variable.

The variable whose effect is being studied is usually independent of any external cause and is called independent variable.

For example, In a study of Enzyme kinetics which targets to explain the effect of Temperature on enzyme activity, the temperature serves as the independent variable because it does not depend on any other factor but itself causes the change.

But the activity of the enzyme in this experiment is the dependent variable which affected by the changing temperature.
