    Myelination can be defined as the process of formation of myelin sheath around a nerve to allow nerve impulses to move more quickly.

    Myelin is a fatty substance that is rich in lipid which surrounds nerve cell axons to insulate them and increase the rate at which information that are encoded in form of electrical impulses are passed along the axon.

    Generally, myelin increases the transmission of electrical impulses called action potentials along myelinated axons by insulating the axon and reducing axonal membrane capacitance.
