In chemical digestion, harmones such as saliva is added to the food for the breakdown of food substances in to simpler substances while mechanical digestion is the breaking of food particles into smaller pieces. This mechanical digestion occurs in mouth through teeth and in stomach. These smaller food particles can pass through the epithelial cells of mucosa into the underlying blood and lymphatic vessels and send it to every cell of the body.
