    C) The animals can get sick or die.

    Explanation:

The dumping of oil in a drain which leads to a nearby river will cause the same type of impact which is caused by oil spillage in marine ecosystem like ocean, sea etc. It is a sort of pollution. Oil spills are extremely hazardous to the water bodies. Oil being less dense and immiscible in water floats on the surface of the water bodies. Some aquatic flora and fauna are totally dependent of their outer coats for physical phenomenon like buoyancy and physiological phenomenon like warmth. But, this oil sticks to their outer coat because of which they are unable to float and get drowned in the water. Not only this but also they suffer from hypothermia i. e. they fail to maintain homeostasis in their body and die out.
