    Explanation:

    Londoners burn coal in their home to keep warm while the industries use coal to power their factories. This emits pollutants into the atmosphere. In most occasions these pollutants are able to disperse into the atmosphere and get carried by wind systems. However, in 1952 an anticyclone in the region resulted in stagnation of a cold air mass around London for about 5 days. This caused the pollutants to accumulate in the air to form a dangerous smog. This caused respiratory challenges to the residents and it is reported that more the 4,000 died as a result.
