    The writer believes it is called the mitochondria, if they are not mistaken.

    Every cell has a nucleus (plural is nuclei). Hence, it is claimed by the endosymbiosis theory that in primitive times, mitochondria is a single-celled bacteria which was independent on its own. However, evolution took place and these unicellular cells merged with mitochondria forming multicellular cells later.
