What is the effect on the mass number and charge of a nucleus when it loses an alpha particle?

    The mass number and charge are effected when it loses an alpha particle, as it loses two protons and two neutrons. Therefore, their is a decrease in the atomic mass, which is by 4, and by the atomic number by 2.
