    The peripheral nervous system (PNS) are all neurons located outside the brain and spinal cord (which is the central nervous system [CNS]). There are two types of peripheral nervous system: sensory (afferent) neurons and motor (efferent) neurons. The former carries bits of information from the sense organs (touch, smell, taste, hearing, and sight) around the body to the brain and spinal cord, while the latter transports messages from the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord to the muscles and glands.
