What does the fossil record reveal about the evolution of life on earth?

Fossils reveal the different time periods that has existed on earth according to the age of that organism. So fossils in some degree reveal the age of earth because If organisms existed the earth must had already been in existence. This also can reveal the evolution of life on earth and how different organism developed over time or even became extinct.
