The term qualitative is used to describe data that relates to the quality of the subject under consideration. For example, if the subject of a study was a cell phone, then the qualitative data may include the color of the phone, its texture, its physical condition and other such properties.

On the other hand, quantitative data always has numeric values as it deals with the quantities involved. For example, when considering a cell phone, the numeric data will be its weight and its size.
