How many times per year can a 529 plan account holder move funds from one plant to another? A 529 plan older is able to make one-tax free move of their plan within a 12-month period. If the plan older decided to make more moves within the 12-month period they are considered a non-qualified distribution and there is also a penalty on the earnings as well as federal taxes imposed.
