Don and Deidra are married but they have not lived together for the last three years. Don and Deidra are not legally separated and she will not agree to file a joint return. For the past two years Don's father Wyatt has lived with him. Wyatt's only income is a pension of $2,500 and social security of $3,950. Don pays all the costs of keeping up the home and can claim Wyatt as a dependent. Don has no other dependents and no one else lived in the home. What is Don's filing status?

Thus Don's filing status will be either married filing jointly status or married filing separately filing status.

    Explanation:

For this situation Don and Deirdre will be viewed as wedded for the whole expense year as they have been legitimately hitched yet living separated. Likewise they have not settled on any activity or choice to sanction their partition. Wear can't record as head of family as he isn't unmarried and will be not viewed as unmarried.

Wear's dad has a gross yearly pay of 2500+3950 = $6,450. This is over the edge measure of $4,150 set for 2018 returns. In this manner Don's dad can't be guaranteed as a ward and subsequently Don can't document as head of family unit.

Here Don can either elect to file a joint return or file separately (this choice is entirely his). Subsequently Don's filing status will be either married filing jointly status or married filing separately filing status.
