    In order for a substance to be an acid by the Bronsted-Lowry definition, the substance must be a proton (hydrogen ion) donor.

    Of the given substances, only HNO₃ has H + ions that may dissociate in an aqueous solution. NH₄NO₃ dissociates to form ammonium ions (NH₄+) and nitrate ions (NO₃-).
