    The answer is actually C, A, and E. Because metalloids DO have have the characteristics of both metals and nonmetals, The atomic number does increase from left to right on the periodic table. Nonmetals don't create a "staircase" down the periodic table, metalloids do. Henry Moseley did establish a periodic table that arranges the elements by atomic number. If C is right, B is wrong because they are opposites.
